Central

In the Central Region lies the monarchy's capital, Krakenport, the largest and most advanced human city in the world to date. Krakenport is a bustling metropolis: Travelers and nobles come and go throughout the city, Shae artifacts are carefully studied, and magical research is done within its universities. Despite the monarchy's attempt to unify the world, its own city is far from united: Gaps between the rich and the poor are highly apparent, and getting the chance to study at a top magical or academic university is difficult without a noble bloodline to back you. The entire island that Krakenport is located on has been civilized, so there are few opportunities for adventure and exploration within the region.

Notes:

  • The Coral Castle in Krakenport houses the Seaborne and is located safely away from the coast and in the center of the city.

  • The Seaborne’s naval fleet is known as the Sea Slicers, or colloquially as the Slicers. They protect the seas around the Central Region and Southern Regions primarily.

  • There are numerous reputable universities within Krakenport, but the most famous is the University of Lu. This school places a heavy emphasis on science, history, and magical studies, though their magical training is second to the Institution Arcanium in Silverpointe.

  • Within the possession of the University of Lu is the Lusia Museum. It's located outside of the walls of Krakenport but is curated by the university. The Lusia was once an above-ground Shae stronghold, thought to have been created during The Flooding, that has been transformed into a building that now houses treasure and the Shae artifacts that it was once tasked with protecting. It's an extremely popular tourist attraction.

  • The Myuni’isha (lit: temple of myu in the Shae language) is the largest and oldest Myuunism temple. Built out of sandstone, the temple is carved into the side of the city and resides completely underwater, though the interior is dry. When the Wavecaller is in the city, she works from here to give sermons and blessings to those who come.

Northern

At the core of the Northern Region is its capital city, Northtide, which is the monarchy's current target for restoration and growth. This region is somewhat chillier than other geographic locations, albeit not as frigid as the Southern Region. It is most well known for being a stronghold of reachable Shae artifacts. Archeologists and anthropologists employed by the Lu College of Northtide frequent this area due to the number of excavations that are performed, causing those stationed in this area to typically be the first to observe new findings and artifacts of the Shae.

Notes:

  • The Lu College of Northtide is a branch school of the University of Lu in Krakenport. Primarily a research focused (as opposed to academic or magic) institution, much of the school's efforts other than the excavations are directed towards the study of the Shae, the Ocean, and the creatures within it.

Eastern

The Eastern region is the least explored and least traveled region. Large and expansive, it drives away humans due to its volatile storms, hostile monsters, and general premise of danger. Some believe that this region is where Rae, Spirit of Storm and Trial, focuses his efforts, causing those who travel into the region to beg Vyo, Spirit of Travel and Safety, to calm Rae.

The Eastern Region's capital is Whalemire, which is the least populated capital city within Mu. Whalemire is flanked by large walls crafted out of sandstone on all sides to brave some of the nastier weather that may hit the region. Though this city is the least populated capital, it is the most visited by adventurers and sailors passing by on their way through. The general uncertainty of the Eastern Region draws in adventurers in hopes of finding treasure and artifacts, though traveling to the unexplored areas of the region is typically viewed as a death wish.

Notes:

  • Kraken's Maw is a dangerous area of the Eastern Region known for being this world's equivalent of the Bermuda Triangle. Ships who sail into it never come out. This area is unexplored on all maps.

  • Said to be Rae's tangible anger, whirlpools and storms rapidly and suddenly appear out on the ocean.

  • Physical strength is highly valued here. Citizens of the Eastern Region often learn to wield weapons at a young age in order to protect themselves against the monsters that attack their cities. In schools, a greater emphasis is placed on physical ability rather than magic, which can oftentimes be blocked by magical creatures.

  • It's thought that the lack of resources sent to Whalemire is a strategic move on the monarchy's part. The Eastern Region outputs the most physically adept soldiers in the world, and joining the Seaborne's forces of the Sea Slicers is the easiest way to leave the Region.

Southern

Because the Southern Region is farthest from the Central Region, the grasp of the monarchy is weakest here despite the best efforts of the Southern Tide Lord. Crime thrives in this region, causing the presence of the Sea Slicers to be prominent within the capital city of Southreach. As such, Southreach is somewhat under lock and key, as is the immediate surrounding area; it's common for the Sea Slicers to travel through the waters and stop ships without warning to check their cargo and passengers.

However, because the presence of the Sea Slicers is concentrated around Southreach, elsewhere in the region is fair game. As long as you can avoid the occasional scan through by the naval forces, runaway criminals and convicts frequently escape to this island. "They're on their winter vacation" is a euphemism that describes someone's attempt to escape conviction by heading to the Southern Region — although their wintery vacation will last forever.

Notes:

  • There are rumors of an island that's supposedly a safe haven for criminals. You're said to receive a letter in the mail with instructions on how to get there, though nothing has been publicly confirmed. The Sea Slicers have searched far and wide for this island, but it's currently believed that this safe haven is nothing more than a myth.

  • Though this region is colder than elsewhere in the world, it never freezes over. There are no glaciers or large ice formations. This is, however, the only region that snow will fall.

Western

Islands within the Western Region are far warmer and more mountainous, volcanic, and forested than elsewhere in the world. Mining is an extremely common activity; jewels and stone are the main export of the sunny Western region. Islands here are lush and thought to be the most beautiful, and the biodiversity within these islands (on land) are thought to be greater than elsewhere in the world. The Western Region's capital city, Silverpointe, is a popular vacation destination.

Notes:

  • The largest magic academy within the world, the Institution Arcanium (IA), is located within Silvershore. It's far less funded than the University of Lu or the College of Northtide, much to their chagrin. They have something of a rivalry with those schools, believing that magical Shae artifacts should end up in their possession due to their more advanced capabilities with the arcane.

  • There are numerous popular stone exports including stones used to enhance weapons and gear and stones used to make arcane focuses. Gems, gold, and silver are also popular, frequently shipped to Krakenport.

  • The Western Region is the most popular tourist location for people from other regions. There's a tour called the Western Express that covers multiple islands.
